A finales del 2002 estrenan su segundo álbum titulado "The Young And The Hopeless" a través de Sony Music, y el pegajoso tema "Life Time of The Rich & Famous" es lanzando como primer sencillo promocional. Un demo fue enviado a la estación Philly, WPLY y como resultado fueron firmados por la Sony Music. Durante el tiempo que no contaban con el apoyo de una disquera, Good Charlotte se presentó junto a bandas como Blink 182, Bad Religion, Eve 6, Nine Days, y participó como telonero de Lit en una gira que se realizó en la Costa Este de Estados Unidos.
Los hermanos Joel y Benji fueron botados del apartamento en donde vivían, por lo que se refugiaron en el de Billy.
